What: Open Streets 704 is a series of four (4) events that will open a length of roadway to pedestrian and bicycle traffic only, mirroring 100+ similar “open streets” events in the US and around the world. Activities will be sprinkled along the route to serve as opportunities to engage with neighbors and businesses in a healthy, active way.
When: May 1, 2016. 12PM – 4PM
Why: Open Streets 704 aims to create a healthier, active, and more connected community by removing the barrier that traffic and cars can create. A two-year grant from the Knight Foundation will support four (4) events over the next two years. This is sponsored by Partners for Parks, Mecklenburg County Health Department, the City of Charlotte, the Charlotte Department of Transportation, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Charlotte Fire Departments. Open Streets 704 also coincides with BIKE! Charlotte beginning Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 15.
Where: Approximately three (3) mile route from North Davidson Street (NoDa area), through uptown, to Memorial Stadium near CPCC. Here’s a link to the event course map!
Who: Open Streets 704 is free and open to all to participate. Interested in hosting an activity with your business or neighbors?
